DC Invitation
T’was the Spring of elections when all through the land,
The trees buds were turning with flowers in hand;
The transcribers were brailling their cells with care,
In hopes that their paychecks soon would be there;
The TVIs were nestled all sung in their schools,
With prison groups locked down again with no tools.
And Dorothy at her desk and I at my office
Had just settled down for a long summer solstice.
When up on my screen there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter.
Away to Facebook, I flew like a flash,
Tore open my email and then was aghast.
The sauce of my chicken dripped down my hose,
Giving lustre of mid-day to objects below;
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a National Braille Conference and maybe a beer.
With Dorothy, our president, so lively and quick
Surely, a great destination she had picked.
More rapid than eagles her courses they came,
As she whistled, and shouted, and call’d them by name:
“Now, Lincoln! Now Adams! Now Reagan and Jackson,
“On Clinton! On Kennedy! On Carter and Nixon,
“To the top of the White House, to the top of the mall!
“Now braille away! Braille away, braille away all!
As cherry blossoms open like hurricanes fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the White House the courses they flew,
With a conference of presenters-and Dave Shaffer, too:
And then in a twinkling as I scrolled down my page
My heart started pounding like a bird in a cage.
Oh my, how delightful, the braille world uniting,
Teachers and transcribers all would be arriving.
Nemeth to Tactiles, Music to Literary
The braille workshops would be really, quite scary… I mean merry.
Foreign Language is included as is Formats and Math
Just leave some extra time for your bubble bath.
A bundle of fun is packed into the deal,
From sight-seeing to tours to a fine banquet meal,
Capitol Hill how it twinkles, the Smithsonian how airy
The Lincoln Memorial, forget not the Cemetery.
So much to do and so much to see,
Aside from great workshops, what more can there be?
So by now you have guessed where our conference will be,
In Spring 2013, its WASHINGTON, D.C.!
