    Hi, Larry,
I'm transcribing a Chopin Polonaise that has a two long sections (20 and 14 measures) with a repeating rhythmic motif that crosses the beat. See attached measure, which is one of many where the 2nd and 3rd eighths equal the 4th and 5th eighths, in this case in both hands. The code states that "in obvious cases" the part-measure repeat can be used across the beat. I'm wondering whether this repeated syncopation could be considered an obvious example of a cross-beat repeat, especially since the pianist would have "gotten the idea" in the first two measures, which have to be written out.

In example 16.3.2-2 in the Code, the part-measure repeat is very simple. This is much more complex, but would it be clear?
    Thanks,

    Hi, Ruth,

I think this is a very good example of an obvious case. The slurs make it even more clear, and it's fortuitous that it occurs in both hands.
