I hope I have put this question in the right forum.

I have the attached example in a book I am transcribing. Can I use the double italic inidator to show the emphasis, or will I have to italicize the bold text individually because of the slashes. I know that the italics has to be repeated after a slash, so does that mean I cannot use the double italics when a slash occurs between words in a situation like this?

    Good question!
A lot of people have trouble this.
This is not clearly explained in EBAE, but the example in the 2007 Update on pages L27 and L28 does shows the proper usage of a double emphasis indicator when a slash mark appears within the series of 4 or more words.
The double emphasis indicator is used.

    Put out the dog/cat/rabbit.
    ..,put \ ! dog_/cat_/.ra2it4

    I hope this helps
