So confused: Question--do we still use the format (margin with runovers in cell 5) and (3 with runovers in cell 7) when transcribing numbered questions with multiple choice answers? Example:

    1. The house down the street from you is on fire. Who do you think would respond to the fire first?
    a. the fire department
    b. the police department
    c. the fire department and the police department
    d. the fire department, the police department, and concerned neighbors and friends

The sections of the new formats manual dealing with exercises and tests do not address runovers, except between pages. The only reference to runovers I have been able to locate is in the List section. This section says runovers in lists are to be placed two cells to the right of the farthest indented item: two levels; margin and 5, 3 and 5.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

The 1-5, 3-7 format is no longer used at all. I'm not sure which section you are referring to. Do you mean something in Section 8 Lists? Which section exactly? This issue is directly covered in the section on Exercises, Section 10. See 10.4.2, which specifices the beginning cell and the runover.

Hope this helps. Please post again if it doesn't.
