    Hello Again,

ROVER FINALLY HOME; HE WAS SOAKING WET!

Does the semi-colon make this two separate passages?

I'm looking at the example on pages 83-84 of UEB Rules.

"... at 11:00 ..AM"--...MARKAM ECONOMIST AND SUN..    I understand the use of 2 cap. indicators, although because it's one

    symbols-sequence, it's confusing.

The instructions on page 83 say "A capitalized letter or letters-sequence placed adjacent to the beginning or end of a capitalized passage is not necessarily considered to be part of the passage, especially if it is separated from the passage by a space or punctuation."

Those are very vague instructions.   "WHAT IS HAPPENING? WHAT IS GOING ON?   is this one cap. passage, or two, as defined by the above instructions? Can you please explain the "...space or punctuation" instructions?

    Thank you,

    Candace Richardson

The semi colon does NOT make this two separate items.  In the AM example, the 11:00 AM is not related to what follows...and it helps with reader understanding to keep the capitals separate for them.  In your example, they ARE related...and should be capitalized as one passage.

    See 8.5.4 of UEB.
