Tactile Graphics Tuesdays: When To Produce A Tactile Graphic
Presenter: Don Winiecki
Tuesday, February 18 at 2:00p EST
Description: Unit 1 of the Guidelines & Standards for Tactile Graphics (GSTG) is “Criteria for Including a Tactile Graphic“. The main feature of Unit 1 is a flowchart/decision-tree. Flowcharts are very helpful, but successful use of a flowchart often depends on a bit of nuanced knowledge.
For example, the first decision point is, “Is the information a repeat of facts in the text?”
But what does this really mean? — “…repeat of facts…” does not help us to identify which facts (or other details) are essential for the reader to acquire. This means that the transcriber/tactilist might have to do some homework to actually answer this question.
Some illustrations of “yes” and “no” examples at this and other decision points in the flowchart, and added detail that justifies such decisions will be provided in this webinar, so you can focus your TG work on things the learner really needs!
UEBe Informed: Section 7.6 Simplified
Presenter: Dan Gergen
Wednesday, February 19 at 1:00p

The newest update removes the concepts of “nonspecific” and “predominant” quotes and emphasizes the importance of the apostrophe in braille. They’ve also expanded the section about avoiding ambiguity and added a section for software developers. During this webinar, we’ll take a look at the whole section and what you’ll need to know with the newest changes.
