    Hi,

I remember seeing somewhere a proposed alternative method of underlining, involving a sequence of dot 36s on the line below the text, the text then continuing on the next line. I don't remember where I saw that or if it ever became official. Also, this appeared on a preSAT test. It seems to me that an alternative method of something should not be used on a standardized, high-stakes test. Do you know anything about this?

I do not - I have never seen anything like that. With the UEB underline indicators, this alternate practice should NOT be used. And definitely not on any kind of standardized test. I suspect that was before we had UEB underlining 🙂
