    Hello Experts:

I'm trying to get a definitive rule on the identifiers that are repetitive in a table of contents. I think I have it, but then it just slips away again. (face in hands).

I have several repetitive items, with the same identifier, different descriptive names and/or numbers: like Chapter, Points to Ponder, Appendix, Index, Glossary, etc.

Can I pull out the identifier, say Index, list 1-20 and use a blank line between it and the next identified group?

I searched the forums: From an old answer, different year, I think I'm going to need the Identifiers to be before each individual item, as in print.  This, especially so, if they span main content or end matter in the same volume.

What did not help is finding this awesome contents page in the Formats Book with the perfect example, brief contents ... to find the braille is not the complete page.   I'm adding the formats pages hoping that someone can help me finish the example!

    Thanks in advance. J

Can you send a picture of what you have? In the Formats example you attached, the 2nd page (which I think is what you are asking about) would still pull out the word Chapter. The brief contents is a separate item from the full contents so it is treated separately - although in this case, they are treated the same.  On page viii the word Chapter would be at the top (cell 1), then "1 Thinking Critically..." would begin in cell 1, "What is Psychology" would begin in cell 3, and "Psychology's Roots" would begin in cell 5 with all runovers in cell 7. Does that help?

Thanks Cindi. I do understand about Chapter.

But, in that same example page, would that same application work for Appendix if there were several Glossary identifiers, several Index identifiers.

My opinion is it would not, especially after reading another response from you from a year or two ago.

I think you answered a question from someone else that states the identifier separations are limited to front, body, and end matter. So, there are several identifiers in the end matter. If my brain comprehends it correctly, that won't work.

In the end matter itself or in the end matter part of the Contents? I agree with what you said but it's hard to be concrete in an answer without seeing the print :).

Where can I send my example off board? It's sensitive material.

Ah. You can send it to me personally at claurent@nationalbraille.org. I understand if you prefer not to do that though 🙂

Maybe it's divine intervention. Let's talk in code again.

I did the braille of that formats book page with a little modification to meet the question's needs.

The first pages are the way I think it should be. The last page or two is the dilemma. J

Drat it wouldn't let me upload a braille file. I'll try to send it to your email. I had to upload another file to stop the error... it's just the same file as before.

Your braille file didn't come through <sigh>. Can you try again? Maybe make it a .brf file?

Let's try this. Hopefully this file format is allowed. J

Got it! And yes, that is exactly right. The Appendix should not be pulled out as everything in the end matter does not apply to that "heading". Thanks for your persistance!
