    Hello there,

No address is used on the title page of your manuscript. I assume you are speaking about the address of the publisher, in which case, you use the first or principal city only, and the state.

Hi Joanna...and thanks for your reply. I am kind of confused with the spanish braille...i am ok transcribing it...and i do it in all uncontracted braille. I use DBT...so that does most of the work for me. But my student is trying to get her braillenote to print out the accent marks etc. when she prints it out for teacher correction. We figured out how to get the accent marks, but the other marks don't seem to all work. I think we will try it again, and i will give you exact examples of what we are having trouble with. I'm so glad you might be able to help me...i've been searching.

    Thanks Joanna,

    Hi, Dan,

Start with the knowledge that I am not a pianist. I always try to show things in the simplest possible way, and what I think is simple sometimes does not seem so to a pianist. Here's how I would handle this passage, as long as it ts not a facsimile transcription. I went back to Appendix C of the old De Garmo for inspiration, but did not find an exactly parallel illustration.

Since the pianist is clearly not to wait until the end of the duration of the eighth note to start the "grace notes," I think an in-accord starting with a "grace-rest" is necessary. I'd show the opening eighth note and two dot-5 eighth rests in the first side of the I-A. In the second side, I'd show the grace-rest, the opening bracket slur and all of the grace notes. I'd use the measure-division sign to end that line (the RH part will be similarly divided, with an I-A. In the next parallel, I'd simply end the bracket slur after the eighth note A. I don't think any concidence signs are necessary. I really don't see any reason to show the beams across the beats except in a facsimile transcription. I'll try to attach a Brasille2000 copy.

I'd very much like to hear a pianists's opinion.

A survey done by AFB in the 1990's stated that there was a demand and a shortage. You might wish to contact AFB or NFB or NLS to inquire if there is any current research being done. Because of the various code certifications Math and Music transcribers are probably lower in numbers than literary transcribers, however that is my opinion and I have no numbers to back me up.

I don't believe the guidelines direct that Nemeth rules should be altered. When the updated guidelines are completed there may be more detailed instructions about this. Currently, Nemeth Code symbols are not required to be listed on the Special Symbols page, even of K-3 materials. I don't intend to give any advice about this, except use your own best judgment.

All of this is easier to visualize if we have a picture of the print example plus simbraille to look at. I will do my best with the print representation you have included.

    d sub f - d sub o/t sub f - t sub o

    [braille]?_;d;f"-_;d;o"/t;f"-t;o"#

    Delta d/Delta t

    [braille]?_.,d_;d/.,dt#

The typeform (bold) for a letter must always be followed by an alphabetic indicator (if the letter is Greek, this would be the Greek letter indicator). You do not also need an English letter indicator when the letter is other than English.

The typeform rule says that boldface type must be preserved when identifying letters as vectors. It is not necessary to also indicate the subscripts as boldface.

Any arrows in Chemistry that are not listed in section 3 of the Chemistry Code must be transcribed as in Nemeth Code. If you look at Rule XXI--Arrows (Nemeth Code), the construction of a wavy arrow shaft is shown. Your arrow would have a normal right pointing arrowhead.

    [braille]$935o

If length is significant, you may extend the shaft length by repeating the arrow-shaft symbol a suitable number of times.

Any symbols that are part of the Nemeth Code are not required to be listed on the Special Symbols page, even in K-3.

I'm sorry to be so late in responding. I was depending on email notification that there were questions and that has failed me.

It would help to know what the text looks like when you select it on your calculator. However, this is not text the student would have to enter -- it's a selection. I think I would go with the most readable transcription, which would probably mean putting a space after the colon.

Very simply, the letter is butted up against the left parenthesis.

You have transcribed them correctly. They are matrices, not binomial coefficients.
