Back again. Upon re-reading your original statement, I now see that you did attempt to explain how this print works. The problem is that it is still difficult for me to understand and I think most general readers would have the same reaction. And you do mention references to the text, so it is very apparent that you have used the text itself as a resource. I suggest the following.

The transcriber can only transcribe what he is she sees. The graphic and the table should be transcribed separately. The graphic should follow the appropriate guidelines and best practices for graphics of this nature.

For the table, I suggest that you determine what the column headings are for the table, including any that may be repeated from the graphic itself. Observe the row headings on the left and consider the texture porphyritic that appears to apply to both the Intrusive and Extrusive origins. Consider the wide table stratetgies given in the 2007 Update, possibly listed table formats or stairstep. I think all the TN needs to say is that the table follows very closely after the graphic in print. The braille reader will have to examine both very carefully and refer back and forth just as the print reader does in order to discern the actual relationship. All the transcriber can do is to describe and present what is on the page as accurately as possibly. The transcriber's responsbility does not include explaining it, especially in this case.

I have conferred with Lynnette Taylor on this and she confirms that you can just use the plus or minus sign spaced before the number. The Nemeth indicators and notation are not necessary here because these are just simple positive and negative numbers and calucations are not taking place.

I don't understand what it confusing you. I think the sample shows what verse format is and the instructions say exactly what to do with the verse number. Again, this is a hypothetical question. The guidelines are the starting point to applying formatting to print text and the application of guidelines depends on what the print text looks like and how it is intended to be read. I have said this before. I need to see real print text, otherwise I can only guess here. I also do not see why you raise the issue of adding a blank line. The indention of the paragraph in cell 3 certainly shows that it's a new paragraph.

Thanks for the great question. Use the provisions in the Interim Manual because this is an Italian number. Long numbers refers to ANY number, whether a telephone number or not. Since this is a foreign language transcription, the reference to numbers apply to ANY foreign language number. This is because foreign number notation for ANY number, including a phone number, is often different than United States/English. Leave the space after the T. (I believe that's a period anyway) and insert the decimal and close the space after the 07 as stated in the Interim Manual, because that is the number.

13.8.1 clearly says to place notes to poems at the end of the bottom of the print page following the note separation line. The guideline goes on to say that a blank line is inserted between the end of a stanza or the end of the poem and the separation line. This means that if the entire poem (or just the stanza) ends on that print page, insert a blank line before the note separation line and then transcribe the notees as usual following the separation line. That extra blank line tells the reader that the poem (or stanza) ends on that page.

I think this section means what it says. It says not to change wording. See also Section 1.1.4--A transcriber does not edit text. The former 1997 Braille Formats did provide for such a change in wording, but that has changed. Section 101.5 is that change.

I would like to see a print page so I can see this in context. I'm not sure what is meant by form name. Could this possibly be a computer program FILE name? Sometimes a form is named the same as the actual computer filename.
