    Thank you, Cindi.

That's a little clearer regarding the example and the drill sentence.

As for the exercise sentences, the answer key that I have access to shows no emphasis indicators for small capitalized letters in any of the 3 sentences in question. For #7, at first I thought it was a paragraph heading, but maybe it's not, so maybe sing cap is sufficient. In the other 2 sentences, we have book titles which, it seemed to me, should follow the "Blue Boy" example. I am trying to keep in mind that there may be errors. Thank you for your help.

Per Section 10.9.2 of the UEB codebook, shortforms for deceiving, said and rejoice can only be used within other words when the longer word appears on the Shortforms List given in Appendix 1. Deceivingly, unsaid and rejoiceth do NOT appear in Appendix 1.

HOWEVER, since the codebook came out, the ICEB code maintenance committee has approved the use of the shortform for said in the word unsaid (approved March 2015). Any new publications regarding UEB should reflect that change. In the meantime, I would suggest you write it into Appendix 1 of your codebook.

While making that change to Appendix 1, add the word unrepaid to the list for using the paid shortform. This change to Appendix 1 was also approved in March of 2015.

Thank you for your response, but I'm not sure I understand why you've referred me to Braille Formats. I may not have described the situation clearly. I will try again.

The agency I'm brailling for wants the novel done following the Instruction Manual for Braille Transcribing (6th edition) except without print page numbering. Therefore, I assume the title page won't include any print page numbers; is that correct?

The other question is regarding section 19.3a of that same manual. Some have understood section 19.3a to mean that "if there is a table of contents" each volume begins with braille page 1, but that "if there is no table of contents" only the first volume begins with braille page 1 with the pages of following volumes numbered consecutively. Others understand this section to mean that each volume begins with braille page 1 whether or not there is a table of contents. Which is correct?

Please do answer my questions according to the guidelines. Our members want to have a correct understanding of them.

I hope what I'm asking is clearer. Thanks again for your help.

Yes I would use the letter indicator. al is not capitalized and could easily be confused for the short form also.

Thank you, Joanna. I think that clears it up for me. Keitha
