We Are Seeking Your Input!

The National Braille Association and the NBA Braille Formats/Textbook Committee are looking to gauge interest in the creation of an online formats course.

We’d love your input while we develop an educational experience that is unlike anything we’ve attempted before. Our hope is to create an intensive and supportive online learning environment aimed at providing transcribers with the best possible training in Principles of Print To Braille Transcription, 2016 with a clear path to certification.

The goal for this concept is to find a cost-effective method to provide training and certification to those who learn best from an instructor, thrive in a group learning environment, and want to be certified in Braille Formats.

Currently, the concept outline includes weekly online instruction that would last 4-6 months. Students who meet the minimum attendance and testing requirements would earn certification at the conclusion of the course.

For this concept, our presenter would be Cindi Laurent who many of you already know to be a leader in Braille Formats/Textbook instruction. Our hope is to emulate the concept with other presenters in the future and in different skills areas.

Your Input

We’ve been in discussions and planning for over a year in attempting to make this course a reality. We’ve narrowed much of our discussions to a few final ideas and now we’re ready for your input.

A note about cost: We very much want to make our services and products available to transcribers at a modest price point. Finding a way to generate six-months of educational content, cover NBA staff time, presenter time, software, and also incorporate the regular $175 exam fee into an online course that wouldn’t break the bank is not easy. When offering feedback on the course cost, we ask that you keep in mind what you feel would be fair.
